Xiaomi has launched the Xiaomi Redmi 3S and Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime smartphones in India as the Xiaomi team promised last month. Both smartphones pack almost the same specs, with the Redmi 3S Prime ahead of the Redmi 3S in terms of battery, storage capacity and security sensors.

Xiaomi Redmi 3S/Redmi 3S Prime Specifications

The two smartphones have 5-inch HD Displays with a pixel resolution of 1280 * 720. They have full metal magnesium alloy unibody design, weigh just 144 grams and are 8.5mm thick.

The smartphone is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 64-bit processor with eight processing cores at the maximum processing speed of 1.5GHz octa-core. The SoC is aided by an Adreno 505 GPU, which handles the graphics operations of the device(s).

The Xiaomi Redmi 3S comes with 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM capacity and 16GB of eMMC 5.0 ROM capacity, while the Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime comes with 3GB of LPDDR3 RAM capacity and 32GB of eMMC 5.1 ROM storage capacity. Both internal storage capacities can be expanded to up to 128GB with the use of a micro SD card.

For photography and video recording, the Xiaomi Redmi 3S smartphones possess a 13MP camera at the rear which is equipped with a LED Flash, PDAF (Phase-Detection Auto-Focus), has a f/2.0 aperture and can record videos at a resolution of 1080p. For selfie purposes, a 5MP camera capable of recording videos at the same resolution as the main camera, and with a wider f/2.2 aperture sits at the front of the device. The front camera doesn’t have a LED flash, though.

Both smartphones possess infrared blasters (IR sensors), but only the Xiaomi Redmi 3S Prime has a fingerprint sensor which is present at the back of the device.

The Redmi 3S has two SIM slots; one that accept a micro SIM, and one that accepts a Nano SIM, as well as a micro SD card. With this comes 4G network connectivity with VoLTE (Voice over LTE) support. It also supports other wireless connectivity features such as Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth version 4.1 and GPS equipped with GLONASS technology for better location determination and navigation.

Providing the juice on which the Xiaomi Redmi 3S runs is a 4,000mAh battery, while the Prime version is run on a 4,100mAh typical battery. Both smartphones come pre-loaded with Xiaomi’s MIUI version 7, which is built on Android’s latest flavor Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
